The College of Architecture and Design marked its fiftieth anniversary in 1995 with the publication of several commemorative works in a slip case labeled “Celebrate 50: The College of Architecture, University of Houston, 1945-1995, Fifty Years of Excellence in Architectural Education.” Contained therein is a 7.5” x 37” poster, “50 from 50: Fifty Outstanding Alumni of The College of Architecture,” “Flashbacks: Images from the First Fifty Years of The College of Architecture,” “Open Plan: the History of The College of Architecture,” and “Saintonge II, a study of the Lacoste School of the Arts,” undertaken by the College’s Center for the Study of Architecture and Urbanism. These Celebrate 50 books collectively provide the most definitive and official history of the college and document the key moments and people in those first five decades.
