Meier’s initial focus at UH was on the Texas Legislature, which was expected to consider the structure and funding of higher education in Texas. He was considered to be brilliant in attracting research funding, a key goal of UH. He received approval from the Coordinating Board for building the addition to the Houston Science Center that would house the Texas Center for Superconductivity.
