Description
  • The University of Houston cougar mascot, Shasta, and Marguerite Ross Barnett standing side by side, fingers holding up the "cougar paw" hand gesture for school spirit. Marguerite R. Barnett was the first black and the first woman to head the University of Houston, serving as the eighth president from 1990 to 1992. She was responsible for the creation of the Texas Center for the Study of the Environment and the Texas Center for University-School Partnerships.
