Schilt sitting at a desk","description":["Portrait of Alexander F. Schilt seated and smiling. Alexander Schilt first came to Houston in 1980 as president of UH-Downtown and served until 1987. During the final two years of his presidency at UH-Downtown, he was the System’s special assistant to the chancellor for development. From September 1989 to 1955 he was chancellor of the UH System. Schilt launched the Creative Partnerships Campaign to build the UH endowment, which surpassed its goal by $8 million. He stepped down as chancellor in 1995, but remained at the university as a professor in the College of Education.
