I sent to the express office \u0026amp; to the\r\ndepot also, but nothing at either place, so\r\nI concluded the sack of Onions and other arti\r\n-cles had not come up as you expected, tho\r\nthey may come this evening.   At any rate\r\nI thought it best to inform you of their\r\nnon appearance.   Gaston is still on the\r\nGrand jury.  I doubt very much if he will \r\nmake any examination of the records as he\r\nand the Clerk of the Co. are not on terms as\r\nyou know \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c.  I have not seen, or heard\r\nanything of Mr. Wiggins since the day after\r\nyou left here.  Were you to appoint a day\r\nto be here sometime in advance of coming\r\nI could let him know by some one pass-\r\ning in the course of a week, as every day\r\nor two some one is coming in from his nei\r\nghborhood\r\n---------------------------------------------------------\r\nMr. Thompson is I believe getting well\r\nI saw Doct. Powel last Tuesday, and from what\r\nhe said of the case I was lead to believe there\r\nwas no hope of recovery. The Doct gave it as\r\nhis opinion that Thompson would die certain\r\nI have heard nothing from him today, but I\r\nheard yesterday from Mrs. Griffin our nei-\r\nghbor “that she was letting him have milk\r\nand fresh butter, “as it was all he could eat”\r\nand I heard also that Doct  White went home\r\non Wednsday \u0026amp; said to Doct Jordan that he\r\nThompson was doing well. It is thought there\r\nhas been a good deal said, more for effect than\r\nanything else to make out a case against Capt.\r\nHightower\r\n\t      \r\n\tWe all look for the Papers, and read\r\nthem eagerly to see what the Yellow fever\r\nis doing, and whether it is getting any nearer\r\nHow much we will have to be thankful for\r\nif Texas does escape its deadly fangs.  Two \r\nmonths or more is a long time. And within\r\nthat period it may reach us.  And this \r\nreflection leads me to make a suggestion \r\n-------------------------------------------------------\r\nin regard to commencing the building for\r\nme here.  As it is so uncertain about this,\r\nor any other place immediately upon the Rail\r\nRoads escaping Yellow fever, would it not\r\nbe better to defer it for a few weeks longer\r\nuntil we could feel more certain of whether\r\nit would reach here.  I have thought if we had\r\nto leave here that the Material might be\r\nstolen \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c.  But I will leave this to your better\r\njudgment of the matter. God knows I need it\r\nvery much right now.\r\n\r\nThe Gin is going again\r\nMajor Wood let Gas. have fifteen brushes\r\n(18 was the number required) so the workman\r\nmade three new ones \u0026amp; cut the others to suit\r\nthis stand, \u0026amp; today they are ginning.  I am so\r\nglad to see it doing something, four wagon\r\nloads of cotton have come in today.  Sallie sent her\r\nsewing machine spring down by Mr. Ashe\r\nshe say if it will not give you too much trouble\r\nto have the old spring retwisted, and all made\r\nthe same size of the smallest half of the present\r\nspring.  But if it cannot be made over, have \r\na new one made the same length of the old one\r\n-----------------------------------------------------------\r\nbut all the way the same size of the small part of\r\nthe old one\r\n\r\nI suppose Mr. Ashe has told you \r\nthat we all were going sown into the Thick\r\net to Dr Phillips old place twenty five miles\r\nfrom here.  We will expect you  Doct Jordan\r\n\u0026amp; family Sam Ashe and family. This place is to\r\nbe our place of refuge in case Yellow fever\r\ncomes too near.\r\n\r\nLet me hear from your soon\r\nwith best wishes, In love  Your\r\nMother\r\nMary Jones\r\n\r\nI have not heard from Sam in over two\r\nweeks, he said in his last letter that if\r\nhe was here her would fix me up a \r\nplace to suit me"],"sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/0r967394c/manifest/sequence/normal","rendering":[],"canvases":[{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/0r967394c/manifest/canvas/d504rk56g","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do5255z7432_0001.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/d504rk56g%2Ffiles%2F5dac44f9-136a-40ad-82e6-d5c618800862/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/d504rk56g%2Ffiles%2F5dac44f9-136a-40ad-82e6-d5c618800862","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/0r967394c/manifest/canvas/d504rk56g"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/0r967394c/manifest/canvas/5h73pw294","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do5255z7432_0002.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/5h73pw294%2Ffiles%2F5ad2594b-a8ac-42d7-8cc5-306e57f07dd9/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/5h73pw294%2Ffiles%2F5ad2594b-a8ac-42d7-8cc5-306e57f07dd9","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/0r967394c/manifest/canvas/5h73pw294"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/0r967394c/manifest/canvas/9019s2639","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do5255z7432_0003.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/9019s2639%2Ffiles%2F86daa022-31c1-4a4d-bea1-5744bf3cfac8/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/9019s2639%2Ffiles%2F86daa022-31c1-4a4d-bea1-5744bf3cfac8","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/0r967394c/manifest/canvas/9019s2639"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/0r967394c/manifest/canvas/fb4948713","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do5255z7432_0004.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/fb4948713%2Ffiles%2F8af392cd-e08a-4a45-a7c3-7e850f25a166/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/fb4948713%2Ffiles%2F8af392cd-e08a-4a45-a7c3-7e850f25a166","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/0r967394c/manifest/canvas/fb4948713"}]}]}]}
