Tis true\r\nI could have come home Sunday evening\r\nbut even then I would have reached\r\nhere after you had left - And I well \r\nknow your disappointment was as great\r\nas my own at finding me gone - I had\r\nso many things to tell you and matters\r\nI wished to talk over with you, which\r\nare of interest to us both - realy I could\r\nnot get over the disappointment­ - The\r\nday Gaston returned he stayed all ni-\r\nght at here and Mrs Harrison sent\r\nfor me to come home, as Mrs Owen \u0026amp; \r\nJennie Childress were here,  they\r\ncame to the Home Sunday \u0026amp; Monday\r\nreached our house, Tuesday Evening\r\nI came home - But Jennie had left\r\nfor Galveston some three hours before\r\nI reached home, so I missed seeing her\r\nToo,  Some one else did not see her\r\n\r\nThis past week Sam went down\r\nto Galveston with Capt. Ferran and\r\nhas not yet returned, I am looking for\r\nhim every day - Yesterday week Mrs\r\nOwen returned \u0026amp; Miss Howland with her\r\n----------------------------------------------------\r\nMrs Harrison will go down also in a \r\nshort time, and still intends to get a\r\nhouse if possible and go to housekeeping\r\nI hope she may succeed, As that will be\r\na relief to me for several reasons.  She\r\nstill says that she will always make\r\nroom for me in case it suits me to live\r\nthere with her, I cannot tell yet what I \r\nwill do, or rather, what I will obliged \r\nto do,  rather - Am still hoping some change\r\nwill occur for my benefit, and relief  I\r\ndo not think I can have much reason to \r\nexpect anything soon from Sam,  As\r\nthere are delays innumerable to keep\r\nhim at work for I fear but little profit\r\nto him - Mr. Bell has of late looked\r\nrather gloomy and on two occasions spoke\r\nto me something in this way, “Nothing is\r\nin place, or in order” “There is nothing\r\nhere to do any thing with.”  I said made no\r\nreply to either of these remarks as I thought when he made\r\nup his mind to come out plainly it would\r\nthen be time enough for me to speak.  I\r\nthink he feels lonely, although Mrs. Harrison\r\nand myself chat with him on the Galery\r\nof evenings, so as to keep him from feeling\r\nlonesome.  Wm Birch told Bell he\r\nwanted to come back to me, that he would\r\ndo any kind of work form chopping wood,\r\nmaking rails working on the farm, or do any-\r\nthing indeed, that came up to be done on\r\nthe place, And that I might pay him in \r\nland, as her wanted a small tract to make\r\na home of some time.  Wm has never said\r\none word to me upon the subject, and if\r\nhe should I do not think it would suit\r\n-----------------------------------------------------------\r\nlong to take him again.  If I had material\r\nto have my house made comfortable I\r\nwould employ him to do the work --  But\r\nhe needs just such a man as he is with now\r\nto keep him in proper place, and make him\r\nwork,  he told Bell that he had never ceased\r\nto regret leaving me, that he felt attached \r\nto me for my kindness to him \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c\r\n\r\nThere is some little prospect of my keeping \r\nBetsey \u0026amp; her child for some time to come \u0026amp;\r\nas I would be here alone with Mr. B I will\r\nkeep her, I do not expect it will cost me\r\nmuch money to do so,  I could not stay here\r\nwithout someone beside him on the place\r\neven should he stay the coming year as he pro-\r\nposed to do.  Tomorrow he \u0026amp; Jimmie Cornette\r\nwill commence getting hay.  Col Smith\r\nmows the hay \u0026amp; gives half to any one who\r\nwill haul one half for him, In in this \r\nway one can soon get as much as they will need\r\nfor the winter.  The rain prevented our saving\r\nmuch fodder. Since you were here Bell\r\nhas had another sick spell, but is now up\r\nand well again.  I heard today that Gaston\r\nhad been sick, he came home feeling badly\r\nfrom Lynchburg - I keep well tho at times\r\nI feel over come with the heat, Never have \r\nI felt such hot weather, indeed if I had to \r\ncook I believe it would make a finish of\r\nme in a short time - I met Mrs James\r\nWillie in Galveston, You may remember\r\nher, she is a daughter of Mrs Johnsons of\r\nWashington, her mother is still living \u0026amp;\r\nin Franklin La with her daughters who\r\nare very comfortably situated.  Mollie is\r\nliving in Miss she married well so Mrs\r\nWillie informs me\r\n\r\nMonday morning\r\nI send this by Sam, as he goes up \r\ntoday And oh my dear Son I regret\r\nto be obliged to call on your scanty wa=\r\nges again, we are in much need \r\nof some things, and not a dime in\r\nthe house.  I would not send for any-\r\nthing were it not that Mrs Harrison \r\nis still here - send me small\r\nquantities, as I wish to get along\r\nwith as little as possible.
