A democratic\nnegro made a speech to a mixed crowd last\nnight in which he reiterated the threat\nhe heard Retfroe make in a speech to a crowd\nof negroes. “That they the Rads would carry this\nelection \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c” all of which has been published\nMr. U S Marshal heard the negroes speech stood near \u0026amp; heard all [of] it\nBut notwithstanding  he sneaked went off this\nmorning in company with that vile Radical\nLinton which is in keeping with all they\nDo.  still further Gaston has just come in \u0026amp; \n-------------------------------------------------------------------\nsays the reason he \u0026amp; other democrats did not accom-\npany the U S Marshal to Mont[gomery] was because he was \nin company with Linton  he L. claiming the protect\n-tion of the U S Marshal.  I hope Mr. Ashe will\nnot fail to be here next Tuesday.  We all set\nup here set up until 12 Oclock talking up matters\nDunns new delinquencies were printed last\nnight.  a Thousand Copies \u0026amp; are being circulated\ntoday all over the County.  God grant our\nparty success is my earnest wish  Mr McComb\ntold us all the news of Harris Co. beside what\nwe get in the Papers.  Victory no doubt will\ncrown the efforts of this Co.  Yet I fear some\ntrouble before it is over - While I pray there\nmay be none _  Your election Mr. McComb\nseemed to think was certain.
