How\nmuch would I like to see Mr. Pierce, but feel\ntoo poorly to think of going away from my quar\n-ters at present.  I have been suffering from a\ncold more or less for over three weeks, and\nlast Wednsday took still more cold which\nresulted in making me quite sick for two\ndays.  I took medicine \u0026amp; kept in bed and\nby so doing felt relieved in the course of\ntwo days.  I think my symptoms strongly\nindicated an attack of Pneumonia which\nI warded off by timely care  for two or three\ndays past I have felt quite well.  But today \nam not so well have taken fresh cold\nagain  But hope pleasant weather\nwill bring about a favorable change\n-----------------------------------------------------\nGaston told me when here that so soon as\nhe could leave home he would go down to\nHouston.   he seemed much unsettled in his\nplans for the future \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c  All were disappointed\nin not meeting you here  Sallie was look\ning brighter \u0026amp; better than usual  the cold\nweather had braced her up very much\nThe Book you spoke of having sent up \ndid not come out with the letter, Sam \nmay have it.   My eyes have been giv\n-ing be some trouble for some days past\nand I am unable to read anything at present\nI hope the weakness is only caused by my\nSever[e] cold and headaches and that so soon\nas I recover from that entirely they will be \nstronger  As I may have leisure to read \u0026amp; would\nenjoy it so much.  But this has been one\nof my life long afflictions to be at times\ndeprived of using my eyes to read only\nto a limited extent\n\nPlease say to Mrs Ashe\nthat I fully intended to dine with her\nChristmas day and felt disappointed\n-------------------------------------------------------\nat not being able to do so.
