Also the enclosed Post Office
money order for $50. dollars which I presu
-me is paid be this time I gave Gaston
an order to collect it. I will need the
usual amount pr. Month, but did not in-
tend asking for any after making this
last haul upon your generosity - which
came in the very nick of time as this
morning one of the R Road agents with
whome he had had some correspondence
with regard to getting a lot sent for Gaston
and an arrangement was made in a little time
by by which Gas got two lots for a hundred
and twenty five dollars, 50 dol. paid down
75 dol. in six months time, or longer if at
that time he could not spare the amount. I
like this latter arrangement much better than
any offer they had made. Yesterday evening
Gas got here with his engine & mill
and will proceed to work at once put-
ting up a shed making a tank as &c &c
---------------------------------------------------------
he had the mill stones sharpened today
and if no delay by bad weather will soon
begin grinding in all of two weeks most likely
he thinks in a week more his horses shoulder
will be well so he can begin to haul. Gaston
and Sallie were much surprised when I showed
the Post Office money order and told them how
it came &c &c I then explained to Gaston that
I had asked the loan & that I had told you the
payments could be made monthly as you he could
spare it out of his proceeds form grinding. I
think an effort will be made to return it as
soon as he gets under way

After Sam left
here Gaston picked up at the Pearl Saloon
the inclosed note which as you will see has
been transferred to Sam but not collected
evidently. Can you indorse it by Power of attorney
and return it to Noble & Gregg ??! if not send
it on to Sam & tell him to do so, & return it
as the matter now stands Sam is liable for the
amount is he not ?? Golding said Sam
had thrown it away with other worthless
papers. Be this as it may I wish you may
be able to put the matter right if there is
anything wrong in Sams not returning to the
proper owners
----------------------------------------------------------
  As I only made a commencement to write you
after dinner when company came in and
prevented my finishing it in time to put
into the Po Office before 4 Oclock the hour for
closing up I must tell you that Gaston
has come to the conclusion within the last
three days that his “bad luck is taking
a favorable turn, and he hopes for better succ
-ess hereafter. Several things have occurred to
encourage and favorable to all he has been
trying & wishing to do. You may be sure
I feel gratified to see such evidences
He knows my views about some of the bad luck he
has had, and I think is trying to be more watch
-ful and careful too. I never have seen Gaston
look so depressed as of late, but today he seems
so cheerful and looks so much more cheerful
Sallie laughed heartily at your advising her
to hold on and not be discouraged. I was glad
you wrote her as you did. We are still
doing our own work, I get dinner & put
the house to rights after they all go to school
and I have a nice quiet time which I enjoy
Elliot goes to school too as big as any of them
I agree with you that it is very gratifying to
know that that Sam is for once in his life
so advantageously situated, his letters teem
-----------------------------------------------------------
with accounts of
the many things of interest he has seen, as
well as of the progress he is making. We
all may yet have reason to be proud of poor
Sam. I hope so. We are looking for Mrs Jordan
this evening (Saturday) All day today Gas
has been on his lot having it cleared off
was up there before I was out of bed this mor
-ning Well as I have nothing of any further
interest to communicate will say God
bless you          Affectionately Your

Mother
Mary Jones

Gaston has taken the Deed to
the Lots in Sallies name
@type":"sc:Sequence","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/5q47rn99c/manifest/sequence/normal

@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/5q47rn99c/manifest/canvas/k3569463s
[{"@type":"oa:Annotation
sc:painting
@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/k3569463s%2Ffiles%2F676600c4-d6d2-497d-9aa2-2934f33f98e0/full/600,/0/default.jpg
{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/k3569463s%2Ffiles%2F676600c4-d6d2-497d-9aa2-2934f33f98e0
http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json
https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/5q47rn99c/manifest/canvas/k3569463s"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/5q47rn99c/manifest/canvas/wd375w51q
[{"@type":"oa:Annotation
sc:painting
@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/wd375w51q%2Ffiles%2F29241662-ebd4-4691-8979-7cd84873cd62/full/600,/0/default.jpg
{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/wd375w51q%2Ffiles%2F29241662-ebd4-4691-8979-7cd84873cd62
http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json
https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/5q47rn99c/manifest/canvas/wd375w51q"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/5q47rn99c/manifest/canvas/cf95jb762
[{"@type":"oa:Annotation
sc:painting
@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/cf95jb762%2Ffiles%2Ffa38efbe-12ea-4d38-8118-91e721d80a70/full/600,/0/default.jpg
{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/cf95jb762%2Ffiles%2Ffa38efbe-12ea-4d38-8118-91e721d80a70
http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json
https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/5q47rn99c/manifest/canvas/cf95jb762"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/5q47rn99c/manifest/canvas/dn39x1781
[{"@type":"oa:Annotation
sc:painting
@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/dn39x1781%2Ffiles%2Fb94a199c-413a-4ffe-9267-2042fb8cdd3a/full/600,/0/default.jpg
{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/dn39x1781%2Ffiles%2Fb94a199c-413a-4ffe-9267-2042fb8cdd3a
http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json
https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/5q47rn99c/manifest/canvas/dn39x1781"}]}]}]}
