I am now\ndone, and glad to rest form my\nthree weeks job.  You know\nI cannot do much of such work\nin one day wich made it long\n\u0026amp; tedious.  Sallie is improving\nslowly goes all about the place\nand can take the entire care\nof her Baby which is a relief\nto me\n\nBrothers visit was a surprise \nto me he arrived at the Island\nthe night Gaston \u0026amp; Sallie went down\n------------------------------------------------\nthey only had time to speak as Capt\nSherritt was calling our “all aboard”\n“all aboard” Brother seemed in very low\nspirits,  thinks he will never regain\nhis health I urged him to go \u0026amp; see Doct\nHeard but like every head of a family\nhe could not spare the time from home\nuntil the grave closes over him\nI was quite sick for a few days, was\ntaken the with fever the Sunday night \nafter you left here.  Miss Jennie\nor Miss Lenna Galillard staid\nwith us night \u0026amp; day until I was\nperfectly well.  We are certainly\nblessed with the kindest nei-\nghbors in the world, if with nothing\nelse particularly\n\nI am glad you have\nbrought suit for your claim against\nthe O. H. concern Mr Gillette said\nto me in the presence of Kern \u0026amp;\nJ [       ] that he “knew you had\nnot been paid \u0026amp; that he would\n---------------------------------------------\nsee that you was paid”  if there \nis any loop holes to crawl out of\npaying you I believe that pious\nhypocrite will find them.  I have\nnot been out of sight of the \nplace since my return in \nJanuary last.  I intend however\nmaking a regular call all \nround on all our good neigh-\nbors.  Sallie is not able to ride\nhorseback \u0026amp; having no other\nway to go I will have to visit\nfor us both  And you may well\nimagine I do not feel like doing\nmy won duty in this respect\nwould rather much spend the \ntime in resting \u0026amp; perfect\nquite both of which have \nbeen strangers to me for the \npast four months\nTell Mrs\nByran for me that as soon as \nI get good \u0026amp; rested that I\n---------------------------------------\n[Written upside down along top of page 4]\n\nI thought of you the 5th Inst.  You are getting\nquite old as well as myself\n---------------------------------------\nintend inflicting a few lines upon\nher, remember me kindly to all \nthe Household, and beside tell\nEddy I am much obliged for the call\nhe made me while so near.\nGastons crop looks well, are having\ntoo much rain,  all are dreading the\nCotton worm. We have had some fine\nplums and will have peaches sufficient\nfor our own own use, a good grape crop\nin prospect, likewise Figs  Sallie\nsays to tell you \u0026amp; Mrs Bryan how dee-\nply she regrets not being able to visit\nyou \u0026amp; her.  Your letter were was forward\nto Sallie here.  Harris our Picture\nman is on the Bayou taking “picters”\nagain.
