And I also mentioned\nthat I had a place in view to purchase\nDoct Jordan is negotiating in my\nbehalf with Mr. Dunn the Doct in-\nformed me this morning that he\nwas almost certain that he could get\nthe place for five hundred \u0026amp; fifty dol.\nsix hundred at the most, in either \ncase. one half down the other half\non twelve months time.  And I under\n-stood him to say without interest\nSam \u0026amp; the Doct can make the first\npayment for me but whatever the\nDoct furnishes he will want retur\nned to him within a week at\nfurthest\n------------------------------------------\nSam will not need his money\nuntil next spring I presume\nwhen he goes on to attend a course\nof lectures.  Now the question\nis simply this, can you raise the\namount of three hundred\ndollars or so for me much of it as Doct Jordan lends me  No doubt you or\nMr. Ashe could raise it on\nwhat I have at interest.  Let\nme know at once.  I regret not\nbeing able to have consulted fully\nwith you before taking this step\nit is detracting from my\npleasure in the thought of hav-\ning a place a quiet place, to\ncall home once more\n\nYou will readily see\nthat what I would have to pay our\nfor board this winter would half\npay for my home , which would\nbe in a healthy locality, and in\n-------------------------------------------------\na good neighborhood of white people\nno negroes near.  I would only be about a\nblocks distance from Mr Golden\nwith others even nearer within\ncalling distance.  So that I would\nnot be lonesome.  Sam will not\nadvise, only this far, he said I could\nnot make the improvements for that\nmoney less the ground.  He told\nDoct Jordan that if I did get the place\nhe would take great pleasure in fix-\ning it up to suit me, and would\nalways give me all the assistance\npossible  as at present his inten-\ntion is to make this place his home\n\nAs to the housekeeping outfit I will\nmake that a small matter as I have\nsufficient bedding for two beds, spoons\nknives \u0026amp; forks, \u0026amp; tables beside some\nother things a Bureau washstand \u0026amp;c\nI can get anything I may need here\nalong, from time, to time, as I make\n-------------------------------------------------\nI think a home here will at present\nsuit me better than one would in\nHouston, Poor folks can do better in\nthe big thicket than they can in a\nbig city their wants are fewer \u0026amp; can be supplied\nat less cost.  At any time I could sell out\nif desirable to do so\n\nDoct Jordan went \nhunting this morning to avoid\nseeing Dunn he does not\nwant to appear anxious \u0026amp; then\nI wished so much to hear from\nyou before doing anything def\ninite.
