This was what we concluded he would\ndo.  It took me several days to rest up\ndid not know how much I was fatigued\nuntil after I had reached home,  and the\nexcitement of being a week in a city had died\nout.  Now I am feeling very badly from\na severe cold,  tho able to be up, indeed\nI have to be up as Sallie is in bed from\ncold and other causes, though not seriously\nill\n\nWas glad to get you favor of the 3\nInst, and to learn you had placed my\nmoney at interest. Your letter I have placed\nwith my accounts as you mentioned having\nput with my $1200. dollars three hundred\nof your own money, all payable to my\n------------------------------------------------------\norder.  I am very thankful to have - even\ntwelve hundred dollars - and to be out of\ndebt.\n\nGaston had a letter of late date form \nMr. Sam Ashe he was still in Washington\nCity Suppose he is at home ere this.  How\nheart sick we felt the news of Hays\ninauguration way off in a corner of the \nPresidents House, what a shame we could \nnot have had Mr. Tilden but so it is, an other\nfour, or it may be six years of misrule\n\nI found a letter\nhere upon my return home from Sister Miranda\nshe informed me that old Mr. Kern died the\n25th of Dec. last and that his family had written\nand Telegraphed to John Kern but no tid\n-ings of his whereabouts can be found, the\nreplys are this. “No such person is here now”\nI wonder what is up with him now.\n\nI found Gaston is improving all the time, but\nstill delays going down to Houston to get a truss\nsay he cannot spare the money\n\nLast evening, Shep Mr. Rose \u0026amp; Gas went out\nfire hunting and brought back three deer\nat about midnight.  We wished much that\nyou and our other friends had one of them\nwe have not been out of venison since my \n---------------------------------------------------------\nreturn home Gaston says we go to market\nevery day.  I prefer it to poor tough beef\nanytime\n\nI have had a letter from my Brothers\nfamily it seems they are well satisfied with\nJulias marriage.  Mr Johnsons father was\na nephew of my step fathers, so my \nsisterinlaw informs me  And that his Mr.\nJohnsons father was at Mr Woodruffs while\nhe lived in Houston \u0026amp; from there went\nback to Tenn.  now two of his sons have come\nback to Texas have been here three years  are I\nsuppose well off or well to do, as the saying \nis\n\nWell it is raining and we are in dread\nof a freeze that will kill all the fruit as\nthe trees have all bloomed.  about the\nchange of the moon in March is the time\nwe usually have a freeze.  God grant we\nmay not this year , as I did not have as many\npeaches as I could eat but once last season\nSister Miranda says she will look for me\nagain thes spring.\n \nI will send your quilt\nBolster \u0026amp; Pillow the first time the waggon goes\nto Willis or Grand Lake. Brother is in good health\n\nGaston \u0026amp; Sallie were well pleased with the sale\nand disposition of money to pay Taxes \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c\nand expressed themselves as feeling under\nmany obligations to you for your attention\nto all our land matter, as well also for your\nkindness in attending to their other little\ncommands.  Everything we purchased suits\nto a dot.  The stove almost cooks alone.
