It is well I came with\r\nher as the loss of sleep \u0026amp; fatigue made\r\nher quite sick by the time we lan-\r\nded, and all the day after we got in\t\r\nBut now she is up, and seems as well\r\nas usual and today I return home\r\nI met Mr Underwood \u0026amp; he is going up\r\nwith me, or rather on the same Boat\r\n\u0026amp; has promised to hand you this note\r\n-- hastily written.  I was so glad to hear\r\nfrom you, while I regret to learn\r\nthat Mr. Symons family are in such deep\r\nsorrow,  give my kind regards and sym\r\npathy to them.\r\n\r\nMr. Bell returned and \r\nnow I am going to make some wine, he\r\nwill make it for me.  Can you send\r\nme two empty barrels and about\r\nfifty lbs of sugar.  I do not know\r\nhow you can send them perhaps on\r\nsome sail Boat to Sams at the\r\nPoint, and he can bring them over to me\r\nshould you meet with a safe oppor-\r\ntunity write me a few lines and send\r\nme if you can ­­three dollars  in cur-\r\nrency as I had to borrow that much\r\nof Miss Howland to pay my way\r\nback home as I hired Betsey the\r\n---------------------------------------------\r\nnegro woman Mrs Norrison had\r\nlast spring she has promised to \r\nstay with me until October or\r\nperhaps longer,  I have to give her twelve\r\ndollars per month Mrs H will pay\r\nhalf of the amount as she has promis-\r\ned to do so.  Now when I go home if \r\nthis woman does go with me, I intend\r\nto clear out some of the lazy ones\r\nthere, Miss H among the number as she\r\ntoo sets down for me to cook for her\r\nand says she “did not come there to\r\nwork, and that she enjoys setting on\r\nthe Galery in the cool breeze”  I\r\nlike to set in the cool too, much\r\nbetter than waiting on and old crazy\r\nYankee like her.  I never did have any \r\nuse for her.  We left her at our house\r\nI like the dime tobaco it is good enough\r\nto smoke but I have to last me\r\nfor some time to come I want to dry some Figs\r\nif they are not getting scarce when I get home\r\nI will scald them in a syrup \u0026amp; dry them \u0026amp; some \r\nPeaches also - I deeply regret to hear of the \r\nloss by water, as much suffering will be the\r\nresult.  Money is being raised here for the rel-\r\nief of the sufferers,  Mrs Harrison sends love\r\nto you \u0026amp; will write you in a few days - she will \r\ncome up next Sunday: if she keeps well, Mrs\r\nAllen has gone North \u0026amp; Pitt down west nothing\r\nhas been done for me yet but Pitt told Fontain \r\nhe would do me justice. perhaps so, we will see.\r\n\r\nWrite me often as I shall feel anxious to \r\nhear from you.
