Sam Ashe\r\ntold me that he could get you\r\nhave what money you would\r\nneed for paying Taxes\r\n-----------------------------------------\r\nSam \u0026amp; Gaston can send you some\r\nsoon. Sam is in treaty for a \r\nhouse at Lynchburg on the San\r\nJancinto side, so soon as he can\r\nget see the owner who lives at\r\nGalveston he will move there\r\nI regret to say I shall breath[e] free-\r\ner after the move is made. I am\r\ngetting the yard cleared of rubbish\r\nbut as yet have not planted\r\nanything in the garden. I have\r\nno Photographs of myself altho\r\nI have been to Cedar Bayou twice\r\nonce with Jennie to have her\r\nlittle boys picture taken and\r\nonce I went with Sallie to have\r\nher little flock taken, but\r\ncould not wither time have mine\r\ntaken for want of time. Yours of the 14th has this\r\nmoment reached me, papers\r\nalso All well\r\n\r\nAs ever you loving\r\nMother Mary Jones\r\n----------------------------------------\r\nMonday\r\n\r\nGaston did not get off last\r\nevening owing to low tides, conese-\r\nquently I have time to add a few lines\r\nmore. I had heard of Kerns lectur-\r\ning in Houston, poor fool he does\r\nnot even have the sense to know he\r\nis a fool. I pity his wife who is dou\r\n-btless as you have said at home tak\r\n-ing care of herself \u0026amp; little ones, I hope\r\nshe may be blind to all has faults if\r\nnot she must necesarially [sic] be a very\r\nmiserable woman.\r\n \r\nI have not been\r\nwell of late, every few days since \r\nI had the severe attack of sore throat\r\nand fever the 7th of Jan. I suffer from\r\ndebility and a feeling of great depress-\r\n-ion, I try to shake it off, but impossible \r\nfor hours. The recolections of a half\r\ncentury seem to crowd upon me in spite\r\nof all my efforts to the contrary. Yet I \r\nwould not complain, as I know you\r\n--------------------------------------------------\r\ntoo have you trials. We are having plea\r\n-sant weather altho, rather cold. Hope\r\nthe opening beauties of spring may\r\ncheer us all.. Gastons Tenant Mr.\r\nMathews has left Ashe Haven, no \r\none knows when, rather on the sly\r\nGas[ton] is running on his Boat at present\r\nI saw Mrs. Franck last evening she\r\nsaid her Sister Mrs. Stuart told her\r\nthat Mr. Stuart had spoke of making\r\nyou a proposition to come into his\r\noffice. She could not tell me\r\nanything satisfactory. This makes\r\nthe second letter I have written you\r\nsince you were here. I have prom\r\n-ised Mrs Sam Ashe to pay her a visit\r\nabout the first of March. I may go\r\nup with Sam when he moves only \r\nto stay a few days to assist Jennie\r\nin getting settled in the new home\r\nSams man Johnson left with his father-\r\ninlaw last week. I should like much to \r\nsee the Strong History.
