My impression was right in\r\nregard to how the matter should\r\nbe settled in case I paid the Taxes\r\nto him - I wish much to see you \r\nsoon and will go up for that purpose\r\nwhen Sam comes home and until I do\r\nsee you will do nothing further in\r\nthe matter, except to write to Lane\r\na non Committal epistle in which I\r\nwill only ask a few questions,  But \r\nI have no doubt of the fact of Lanes having\r\npaid the Taxes,  as he says he has for for the \r\nyears 1867\u0026amp; /68 \u0026amp; has rendered it for\r\nthe present year - I will send you his\r\nfirst letter to look at Return it to me,  I\r\nwill put him off for a while longer upon\r\nsome pretext or other until we can asser\r\ntain positively to whom the Tax money\r\nshould be paid.  The amount 2 [_] .95 cts us for\r\nthe two years /67\u0026amp; /68, so it brings the Taxes\r\nlower that we had thought until I refer-\r\ned to his first letter - I think realy the \r\nonly question is who to pay the money to\r\nand to get the proper quittance from\r\nthe same - I wish to get enough wood\r\ncut by that time to pay all my taxes on\r\nour out lands \u0026amp; the state \u0026amp; Co taxes on\r\nthis place -\r\n---------------------------------------------------\r\nto try to hire me one or two woodchoppers\r\neither white or black no matter which\r\nI do so deeply regret that you are \r\nsick so much I am sure you get\r\nup too soon after taking medicine \u0026amp;\r\nagain I doubt not but you are not\r\nprudent in what you eat, or the\r\nquantity either,  about the time you\r\nexpect a return you should be particu=\r\nlarly abstemious  in eating suppers par-\r\nticularly, and indeed it will be well\r\nto be careful for the period of a month\r\nor more,  I still think it advisable for\r\nyou to have the Bitters as I directed, as\r\nit is one of the best Tonics I know off\r\nShould you continue to have these sick\r\nspells you will be obliged to give up\r\nyour place for a week or ten days \r\nand try to recruit, as neglect may\r\nmake it necessary to give it up all\r\ntogether   Which I as well as yourself\r\nwould regret\r\n\r\nI signed the Document\r\nIn Sam’s presence and Mr S can\r\nhave him go before a Notary at\r\nhis Sydnors expense of course.  I do\r\ndo not know whether I have done\r\nright in signing it or not, as the\r\ntransfer I made was to Carnes\r\n\u0026amp; Sydnor as well as I remember\r\nask Mr S if it was not so made\r\nat any rate I do not suppose the heirs\r\nof Mr Carnes can ever disturb\r\nme in any way.  Yet in regard\r\nto that I am not [pe_ted] .
