The money order was paid  I mentioned this\r\nto Mrs Jordan or I would have informed you by\r\nletter ere this.  I have received a letter for Saml,\r\nin which he sent me five dollars \u0026amp; said he would\r\nsend more, as he could, that he had been paying off\r\nold debts since the flood that had been hanging \r\nover him for along time.  I will only need money\r\nto pay my board, as I have a few dollars to pay for\r\nwashing .  I have no doubt but you will have use\r\nfor all you have \u0026amp; regret exceedingly your\r\nhaving to supply me.  But hope it will not \r\nalways be thus.  If I could see any way of doing\r\nanything to support myself I would gladly en-\r\ngage in it.  There seems to be nothing a woman\r\ncan do but to teach school, or keep a boarding\r\nhouse, the first I am unfitted for, and the latter is\r\nover done to such an extent that it would be a\r\ndifficult matter to find a locality not already occupied.\r\n--------------------------------------------------------------\r\n  I am only too anxious for the 15th to come, as we \r\nall can then feel more settled, how earnestly I do I\r\nhope for you success, as well also as for Mr Ashes.\r\nGaston left here with his family last Friday I do\r\nnot know whether he will be able to go to Houston\r\nso as to be there on the day of election, he wants to be there\r\nbut his family is in an uncomfortable open shanty\r\nwhich needs immediate repairing \u0026amp; then too\r\nSallie would be afraid to stay there alone\r\npart of their house hold effects are here yet\r\nand what was sent on at the time we broke up\r\nwere out in three days rain.  I have not as\r\nyet heard from them since they left here, am\r\nlooking for Gaston or some one from there with\r\nthe mules \u0026amp; carry all he went out in as they belong\r\nhere.  Sallie went there with a heavy heart, she\r\nsaid to me that it was entombing herself again\r\nas it is more out of the world than at the mouth of\r\nCedar Bayou if possible.  All were delighted with\r\nLieut. Gov. Hubbert [i.e. Hubbard] speech  , I did not hear him as the\r\nspeaking was in the old open church.  There is some \r\nexcitement here about the election.  I think\r\nevery one should be up and doing all that is possible\r\nto defeat the rads, no matter whether they are\r\n----------------------------------------------------------------\r\ncandidates for office or not  I have not seen a\r\nHouston paper for ten days, not since the two\r\nyou sent up.  Doct. Jordan received a Telegraph\r\nof a late date in which mention is made of\r\nMr Ashes being wounded in the land tho not\r\ndangerously  I hope not  as I want him to beat\r\nthat miserable cheat Con. Noble.  All are very\r\nwell here and today the sun is shining\r\nwhich is a pleasent sight of late . You must\r\nhave a very disagreeable time riding round over\r\nlow flat Prairies.  I can well imagine how much\r\nmud \u0026amp; water you have to splash through, but\r\nit will improve your health, and I hope ensu\r\n-re success. I find myself feeling impatient that\r\nI cannot do something to aid your efforts\r\n\r\nI am reading the History of Texas by Morphis\r\nam only half through it.  I constantly meet\r\nwith familiar names, find myself going\r\nover old times as those familiar names pass in \r\nreview as I am reading\r\n\r\nWith much love and\r\nand heart full of hope \u0026amp; wishes for success\r\nI am as ever   Your devoted Mother\r\nMary Jones."],"sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/pr76f3688/manifest/sequence/normal","rendering":[],"canvases":[{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/pr76f3688/manifest/canvas/7w62f8455","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do1194hm865_0001.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/7w62f8455%2Ffiles%2F570f509b-dcf7-487d-bf23-43cd53c8fe50/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/7w62f8455%2Ffiles%2F570f509b-dcf7-487d-bf23-43cd53c8fe50","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/pr76f3688/manifest/canvas/7w62f8455"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/pr76f3688/manifest/canvas/73666471q","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do1194hm865_0002.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/73666471q%2Ffiles%2F7e139370-1752-4384-9076-f87f0a681057/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/73666471q%2Ffiles%2F7e139370-1752-4384-9076-f87f0a681057","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/pr76f3688/manifest/canvas/73666471q"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/pr76f3688/manifest/canvas/q237hs14t","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do1194hm865_0003.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/q237hs14t%2Ffiles%2F07a36fc2-bcf1-46e3-8908-7403165e46e5/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/q237hs14t%2Ffiles%2F07a36fc2-bcf1-46e3-8908-7403165e46e5","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/pr76f3688/manifest/canvas/q237hs14t"}]}]}]}
