Mr. George Noris was\nshot dead in Woods barroom, and although\nthe room was full, no one in it could tell\nwho it was that did the shooting. Gaston was\nsent for and arrested several in that house\none of Lem Dunns brother among others, but\nno proof could be made against them suffic\n-ient to justify holding them. When Dunn\nwas arrested he denied having any arms about\nhim, but when searched a very fine Pistol\nwas found with one ball missing. Gaston\nand a possie rode twelve miles and back that night\nwith the hope of over ha[ ]ling a young man\n(one of Dunns Clan) who had was heard to say to\nNoris a few moments before the shooting “Now\nstop abusing Dunn or I will shoot you” This\nsame man mounted a horse and rode out of\ntown in a lope immediately after the shoo\n-ting. Saturday about noon Mr. Noris passed\nalong hauling timber near where Lem Dunn and a possie of\nhis friends were. Dunn went up to Noris and\ncommenced cursing him for voting for Ashe\ncalled him a “Damned thief” and used other\n-------------------------------------------------------------------------\nabusive language Noris told him that he\nwas unarmed, but that he was not afraid of\nhim \u0026amp; would fight him in any way or at\nany time after time was given him to pre\n-pare himself. This proposition Dunn declined but con\ntinued to abuse him. And soon after this\noccured Dunn met Mr. Amos Williams\nand asked him to drink with him which\nMr. W. declined doing. When Dunn began\nCursing him and told him to consider\nhimself under arrest “that I am sheriff of\nMontgomery Co. and arrest you for carrying\nconcealed weapons”, Mr. Williams told him\nthat he was not sheriff of Montgomery Co. and\nthat he could not arrest him either. By this\ntime several of Williams sons friends came\nup and just about this time Mrs. Dunn\ncame to him in the street crying hold on\nto Lem and her \u0026amp; some of their kinfolks\ntook Lem home and kept him our of\nthe way. he of course was drunk enough to\nhave his courage up considerably.\n\nThis morning\nall went over to the County Commissioners Court\nand I would not be surprised that some\ntrouble did not arise. As Dunns legal ad\nvisors are only leading him into error\nthat is if he is big enough fool to believe\n--------------------------------------------------------------\nwhat they tell him and attempts to act accordingly\nI hope better councils may prevail\n\nWe are having\na terrible cold disagreeable spell of weather\nDoct. The Doct. was on his\nway home the day Mrs. Jordan sent for him\nI am very well except a little rheumatism \nin my right arm that troubles me some \nGastons cold was some better when he left\nthis morning, but I fear this cold ride may\nmake him sick _ How tired and worried\nI am with this continued excitement\n\nAffectionately Your Mother\nMary Jones\n\nI saw the marked Paregraph [sic] in the News \u0026amp;\nshowed it to Gaston so he could tell the\nparties most interested in it\n\nhis morning I loaned your over hauls\nto Mr. Perry, for which he was very\nthankful as it is awful wet \u0026amp; muddy\nGive my kind regards to Mrs Ashe \u0026amp; family\nalso to Miss Mary Ashe\n--------------------------------------------------------------\n[Written on page 4]\n\nSunday morning\nGas. made all the \nBar rooms close up\nlet Woods \u0026amp; woman\nthere sort of partner\nof Woods threatened\nhim with Lem Dunn\n\u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c, but she\nclosed the Bar"],"sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/v979v3282/manifest/sequence/normal","rendering":[],"canvases":[{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/v979v3282/manifest/canvas/w6634380k","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do713333824_0001.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/w6634380k%2Ffiles%2Ffa07a416-07a7-433c-b6d3-aaae763a8198/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/w6634380k%2Ffiles%2Ffa07a416-07a7-433c-b6d3-aaae763a8198","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/v979v3282/manifest/canvas/w6634380k"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/v979v3282/manifest/canvas/1r66j1416","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do713333824_0002.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/1r66j1416%2Ffiles%2Fd9e67c86-b95c-4aa5-a19a-8a0fdfa2ac06/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/1r66j1416%2Ffiles%2Fd9e67c86-b95c-4aa5-a19a-8a0fdfa2ac06","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/v979v3282/manifest/canvas/1r66j1416"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/v979v3282/manifest/canvas/r494vk477","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do713333824_0003.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/r494vk477%2Ffiles%2F88df186a-8e74-4822-9981-a4d93806cc3f/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/r494vk477%2Ffiles%2F88df186a-8e74-4822-9981-a4d93806cc3f","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/v979v3282/manifest/canvas/r494vk477"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/v979v3282/manifest/canvas/q811kj827","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do713333824_0004.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/q811kj827%2Ffiles%2F6365c1f5-1d46-4c0a-addb-46ec5a64bd6e/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/q811kj827%2Ffiles%2F6365c1f5-1d46-4c0a-addb-46ec5a64bd6e","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/v979v3282/manifest/canvas/q811kj827"}]}]}]}
