No matter.  Mrs. Golding\r\nJun, and her Husband have requested me to lay\r\nthe following facts before you.   That there is am\r\nestate (land)  in Scotland that of right belongs\r\nto the descendents of her Scotch ancestor\r\nAlexander Sample, who was her Great\r\nGrandfather and who emigrated to America\r\ntoward the close of the revolutionary War in\r\nwhat year, she does not remember having no reco\r\n-rd here to refer to.  He settled in South Carolina\r\nwhere he died, leaving five Children.  Her\r\nfathers father being one of them.  Mrs. Golding\r\ninforms me that there are not a great many heirs\r\nconsidering the laps of time.  And that they can\r\nnearly all be found in South Caorlina, and\r\nin Alabama near Selma, And that she\r\nhas a relative (Mrs Jones) near Selma who\r\nhas in her possession (her) Mrs. Gs Great Grand\r\nfathers\r\n----------------------------------------------------------------\r\nfamily Bible, containing as she believes a\r\nfull family record kept by him.  And further\r\nthat this same relative has also in her possession\r\npapers that belonged to her Great Grand father\r\nThey may not in any way relate diretly to\r\nhis tittle to the estate in question.  But they\r\nmight be of service in proving him to be the party\r\nowning the estate as above mentioned.  It is\r\nalso a well known fact that his house was\r\nburned be the English, or Tories, not long\r\nafter his arrival in South Carolina, And that\r\nmany members of the family knew of his\r\n(her) Great Grandfathers intention to send\r\nback to Edinburoh [sic] to have his title renewed\r\nas he was unable to return there, as was his\r\nintention.  When he left Scotland his property\r\nwas near the City of Edinburoh. Now as they\r\nare informed with in the City.  Mrs G says\r\nthat about seven years ago a man just from\r\nEdinburoh was at her fathers house, near\r\nSelma and told him that he knew of\r\nthis landed estate being there, and that\r\nit was very valuable  worth several\r\n-------------------------------------------------------------\r\nmillions of dollars,  And he advised her Father to go\r\non and attend to it, as he would certain to get it, \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c\r\nBut he could not go, And up to this time no applica-\r\ntion for it has ever been made.  From what Mrs. G has\r\nheard her parents \u0026amp; others say, she believes their heir-\r\nship could easily be proven up.  She says that every\r\nbranch of the family both male \u0026amp; female, have had\r\na Son named Alexander.  This together with Bible\r\nrecords would make a strong link in a chain of evidence\r\nMrs Golding tell me that her Mother says it is a character\r\n-istic trait of character in the Sample family to delay\r\nattending to business that is not within convenient\r\nreach of them - hence the neglect.  As I am the adviser in trying to have\r\nthe investigations made, will you make it as a favor\r\nto me,  that is to examine the law, and see what kind\r\nand what amount of proof would have to be adduced\r\nWhether there is any such thing as heirs being bared\r\nin Scotland by statute of limitation \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c.  Mrs G\r\nwill, or has today written on for a copy of the old family\r\nBible record for you to see.  This book taken on would\r\nperhaps be valuable in several ways.  I have\r\nwritten this much to give you some little in\r\n-sight into the matter, But face to face Mrs G\r\n--------------------------------------------------------------------\r\ncould tell you much more relative thereto than I\r\nam able to embody in a letter.   If this turns out\r\nanything it may be worth your careful atten-\r\ntion.  As you can have the business to attend\r\nto - No mention of the project will be made\r\nto outsiders.  Come up if you can after Gaston moves\r\nhere, which he will do so soon as the weather will\r\npermit.   I am not feeling well, for want of exercise\r\nmost likely, when Sallie gets here I will be with\r\nthem if they can get a house with sufficient room\r\nLet me hear form you at the earliest moment.\r\nI have had letters from all my Kinfolks.
