And poor little Dick\nhas frequent attacks, is having one of his\nspells now.  Elliot has been very well\nfor the last four weeks, is as fat \u0026amp; rosy\nas any Child \u0026amp; full of life \u0026amp; mischief\nSam has finished at Mrs. Ropers. And Mr.\nSydnor has employed him to put up an-\nother Gin, in place of the one just burned\nit took fire while Ginning on Friday last\nfrom matches in the seed cotton\n\nI as well as\nyourself rejoice at the success of the Democratic \nParty God Grant every mean thieving Radical\nmay be put out of power, from Grant down\n\nMy heart was filled with regret at poor\nBrothers having to lose his place \u0026amp; what\nhe has already paid on it $1,100 or thereabouts\nHis wife wrote me that you was trying to save\nthem something by looking into Brothers\n-----------------------------------------------------------\nneglected matters, she seemed so grateful\nto you for it too.  As far as looks goes no\none would take him to be in bad health\nas he is mow quite fleshy \u0026amp; to all appearance\nin good health  Most any Physician not acquainted\nwith him would say he was a healthy man\n\nGaston thinks he can rent the old home\nto a very good man with only a wife and re-\nserve room for us to spend the summer there\nat they fear to risk an other Summer here.  I will\nnever spend a summer in this sickly musquito\nhole. In case we do go there we will have to\nmake some repairs, but of this an other time\nas there is time enough.  About every two\nweeks I have a little sick spell of one or\ntwo days, have lost much of my flesh\nalready but feel pretty well most of my\ntime.  My health is never so good in the\nwinter.  I doubt if I leave home this winter\nas it is too much trouble to take my little\nCharge \u0026amp; I could not well leave him with\nSis, as she has no servant  We all are\nare doing all our work except washing\nironing \u0026amp; scouring that we can hire\ndone every week, but not a regular cook\non any reasonable terms\n\nI hope you will come\ndown next month as I see so little of you\n----------------------------------------------------------\nam thankful you are getting along\nso well.  I have ever felt certain that\n you would succeed as you are so prompt\nand attentive to business God speed you \nis all the aid I can give you to Hea-\nven  [I wish] I could have done more to aid you\nwhen you so much needed help.  I try\nhowever to take comfort in knowing I shall only\nhave to greater cause in a just pride\nin your success in after years if I\nshould be spared.  I often think of\nyou alone in your room at night stu-\ndying.  I feel likeI can see you when\nI close my eyes to rest them, not to sleep\nFrequently, as of late they have felt\nweak   Sallie had sore eyes when\nGaston was absent but got off with\nonly a slight attack her health is quite\ngood\n\nSam has just bid he say for you \nto draw on Mr. Sydnor about the middle\nof the present week for $25. dollars \nI wish you would get me a pair of Calf\nskin shoes No 5s broad in the bottom and\nsoft as you can find.  also a pair for\nElliot No 5s with Copper finish soft leather\nas possible   2 lbs of woolen yarn about\nthe size of the enclosed sample.  I would\n------------------------------------------------------\nprefer blue or black mixed if to be had, if\nnot white will do.  I think you can get\nit good and the shoes too at Ward Deney \u0026amp; Co.\n\nLast week Capt\nMcCormicks remains were taken up \u0026amp; intered\nat his Mothers old place beside his Par\nents his family were present\n\nPoor Julia\ndo you know where they are now, she has\nnot written any of us a line.  I suppose the\nDoct. took umbrage at our not mentioning\nhis name while she was here and has forbid\nher writing to people who are guilty of such\nan outrage.  Tell Mrs. Ashe I will write\nher and hope to be able to send her quilt up\nvery soon.  it was not done the first of this past \nweek.  Do as you may deem best about\nselling the Blanco land\n\nAs ever your loving\nMother\nMary Jones.\n\nWrite me occasionally\nAm so glad you keep well\nI receive Papers often and also your\nletter of Oct. 27th contents noted"],"sequences":[{"@type":"sc:Sequence","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/xs55mc27h/manifest/sequence/normal","rendering":[],"canvases":[{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/xs55mc27h/manifest/canvas/wd375w48d","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do94881n31p_0001.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/wd375w48d%2Ffiles%2F11177124-d905-42dc-af57-b0e5df54a075/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/wd375w48d%2Ffiles%2F11177124-d905-42dc-af57-b0e5df54a075","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/xs55mc27h/manifest/canvas/wd375w48d"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/xs55mc27h/manifest/canvas/4j03cz787","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do94881n31p_0002.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/4j03cz787%2Ffiles%2F1162217e-3e59-4d2c-8a1b-65e0235ac441/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/4j03cz787%2Ffiles%2F1162217e-3e59-4d2c-8a1b-65e0235ac441","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/xs55mc27h/manifest/canvas/4j03cz787"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/xs55mc27h/manifest/canvas/rn301157w","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do94881n31p_0003.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/rn301157w%2Ffiles%2F3d8bc8ed-9178-4eb7-80c7-59c905f53931/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/rn301157w%2Ffiles%2F3d8bc8ed-9178-4eb7-80c7-59c905f53931","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/xs55mc27h/manifest/canvas/rn301157w"}]},{"@type":"sc:Canvas","@id":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/xs55mc27h/manifest/canvas/b8515n50j","label":"uhlib_1970_003_do94881n31p_0004.tif","width":640,"height":480,"images":[{"@type":"oa:Annotation","motivation":"sc:painting","resource":{"@type":"dctypes:Image","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/b8515n50j%2Ffiles%2Fbecdf8ee-0fa5-4bca-ac36-d90201ade49e/full/600,/0/default.jpg","height":480,"width":640,"format":null,"service":{"@context":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/context.json","@id":"https://media.lib.uh.edu/images/b8515n50j%2Ffiles%2Fbecdf8ee-0fa5-4bca-ac36-d90201ade49e","profile":"http://iiif.io/api/image/2/level2.json"}},"on":"https://digitalcollections.lib.uh.edu/concern/texts/xs55mc27h/manifest/canvas/b8515n50j"}]}]}]}
