In regard to the\nClear Creek interest it has turned out just as\nI long hadve  long expected it would or for some time past\nTrueheart \u0026amp; Andrews have been steadily at\nwork getting the matter into their own hands\nand weaving a net to keep all others our of\never realizing anything unless they can pay\nthem about the price they could sell at to any\none else.  I see no alternative now but\nto sell to them.  I will see further however\nabout it and let you know my views\nI will be in Houston soon, by or before the mid-\ndle of December as I risk to make the long\npromised visit to Mrs. Bryan \u0026amp; return to the\nBurg by Christmas to eat dinner with Mr.\nand Mrs Sam Ashe, and to visit Sam \u0026amp; Jennie\nwhile there.  Tell Mrs. B I anticipate much\npleasure in visiting her as there are but few\nnow of the old tried veterans of other days\nleft it is a treat to meet and talk over old \ntimes with one.  And then too I am so constituted that\nI cannot take real pleasure in the society of strangers. I\nhave no time \u0026amp; I fear less taste for cultivating\n-----------------------------------------------------------------------\n[written upside down along top of page 2]\n\nI am glad Mary B is gone to Baltimore as she will enjoy\nit much \u0026amp; Mrs. B will be so happy in being able to con-\ntribute so largely to her two oldest childrens pleasure\nand improvement.  May Heaven bless her all though\nlife with plenty.\n-----------------------------------------------------------------------\nnew friendships, but love dearly to meet old\ntried friends.  Tell Mrs B I have not been waiting\nfor a formal invitation, from her, other causes\nhave kept me away.  Remember me kindly to her\n\u0026amp; the little girls also Mrs. Styles if you should see\nher betwen now \u0026amp; my coming\n\nI wish to make a stop at the Burg of a few days\nbefore going up to Houston.  You may send me\nby Mr. Ashe $20 dollars as I will not have any\nto go on after getting there.  I owe a doctors bill there\nof about $20 dollars I wish to pay if Sam is in\nneed of his money he settled it long since with\nJourden.  I have selected all the jour\n-als laws \u0026amp;c \u0026amp;c and can bring them up\nwhen I come.  There are other book[s] here I wish\nyou to have as they are of no use to any one\nelse \u0026amp; might be of some to you if of no other\nthey would serve \"to fill up,\" make a show you\nknow, which with more than half this little\nwooden world of our goes a long way, but of others\nbeside the ones you have written for I will\nget you to select yourself\n\nSallie is not very\nwell today but nothing serious.
